Full Professor of Chinese Language and Culture at the Department of Interpreting and Translation of the University of Bologna. She obtained her master’s degree in Chinese Language and Culture cum laude from Sapienza University of Rome (2009), where she also earned her Ph.D. in Asian and African Civilizations, Cultures and Societies (2014).
Her research activity focuses on Chinese contemporary calligraphy, with particular attention to the analysis of the main artistic expressions that deviate from traditional calligraphic forms (e.g. graffiti art). The main aim of her research is to provide a model for qualitative analysis of these new artistic expressions, proposing a new taxonomy of Chinese renewed calligraphy production, a systematic study on its language and texts, and revealing socio-political and economic implications of their emergence.
She has authored 3 books in Chinese that received the highest academic award for Chinese National Books (one of them also received the bronze medal for Chinese Art Book 2019) and several academic articles, book chapters, and translations. She has also been the curator of international Chinese art exhibitions in Italy and abroad, that involved hundreds of artists from all over the world, and she has many active collaborations with museums and galleries in Italy and in China. She has been a visiting researcher at Liaoning Normal University and China Academy of Art. She is a member of the scientific committee of the Asia Institute and of the Xiyuan yaji journal (specialized in Chinese contemporary art and calligraphy). She is a member of the Italian Association of Chinese Studies (AISC), European Association for Chinese Studies (EACS), and European Association for Asian Art and Archeology (EAAA).
博洛尼亚大学翻译系中国语言与文化正教授。2009 年,她以优异的成绩获得了罗马第一大学中国语言与文化专业硕士学位,并于 2014 年获得了亚洲和非洲文明、文化与社会专业博士学位。主要研究方向为中国当代书法,重点研究偏离传统书法形式的主要艺术表现形式(如涂鸦艺术)。她的研究主要是 为这些新的艺术表现形式提供一个定性分析模型,为重新焕发活力的中国书法创作提出新的分类方法,系统地研究这些新表现形式的语言和文本,并揭示它们的出现对社会政治和经济的影响。
她撰写的 3 本中文著作荣获了中国国家图书最高学术奖(其中一本还在2019年第二十八届优秀美术图书“金牛杯”评奖中被评为学术荣誉奖),此外,她还撰写了多篇学术文章、书刊篇章和翻译作品。她曾多次作为策展人在意大利国内外策划举办了中国艺术国际展览,吸引了许许多多来自世界各地的艺术家,并与意大利和中国的众多博物馆和画廊展开了积极合作。她是辽宁师范大学、中国美术学院的客座研究员,还加入了博洛尼亚大学亚洲学院学委员会,她也是《西园雅集》杂志的学术委员会委员(专门研究中国当代艺术和书法)。她还是意大利汉学学会 (AISC)、欧洲汉学学会 (EACS) 和欧洲亚洲艺术与考古协会 (EAAA) 的成员。

Professor of Calligraphy at the China Academy of Art (CAA) in Hangzhou and Director of the “Calligraphyism Research Center” at the College of Fine Arts in Yangzhou University. He is the founder and the leading figure of the post-modern calligraphy movement called “Calligraphyism”, formed in Mainland China in 1992, that attempts to transform Chinese calligraphy into a contemporary idiom. He was the curator and organizer of 13 exhibitions on Calligraphyism around the world. He is a one of the most important calligrapher and artist who experiments with new forms of calligraphy in the fields of painting, installation, photography, body painting, fashion design, etc. He has had numerous major exhibitions across the globe, for example at Louvre, National Art Museum of China (NAMOC), Brera Academy, Tokyo Art Museum, National Gallery of Art, etc. He is the author and editor of more than 30 books about Chinese calligraphy and art. In 2017 and 2018 two of his books was proclaimed “the most beautiful art books published in China”. He also won a painting award at the Third Florence International Contemporary Art Biennial and “the International Art Contribution Award” at Prince of Songkla University (Thailand). He is editor-in-chief of three specialized journals. He is the founder and director of the “Asia & African and Mediterranean International Modern Art Association” (AAmA). For AAmA he organized 18 international art exhibitions that gathered hundreds of artists from more than 50 countries around the world.

Marta obtained her master’s degree in Chinese Language and Culture cum laude in 2013 at “Sapienza” University of Rome, under the supervision of Prof. F. Salviati. Her master’s thesis in Asian Contemporary Art focused on the analysis of Street Art in China and other countries of East and Southeast Asia. After graduation, she worked for five years as Chinese and Italian teacher in Barcelona (Spain). In February 2021, Marta joined the WRITE Project with a research fellowship titled “WRITE: New forms of Calligraphy in Contemporary China. The Case of Graffiti Art”. Her work involves the study of the relationship between calligraphy and graffiti writing in China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. She is now carrying on the research as PhD student in the same field.

Martina obtained her master’s degree in Languages for Business and International Cooperation (Chinese) from the University of Pescara in 2016, under the supervision of Prof. A. Iezzi. Her thesis in Chinese Contemporary Art focused on the analysis of graffiti writing in China, with particular attention to the city of Beijing. In February 2021, she joined the WRITE Project with a research fellowship, working on the relationship between Chinese contemporary calligraphy and performing arts. She is now carrying on the research as PhD student in the same field.

Valentina obtained her master’s degree in Digital Humanities and Digital Knowledge (DHDK) from the University of Bologna in 2020. Her thesis focused on the production of a semantic framework on scholars’ interpretations on artefacts (MIMA). In 2020, she won a scholarship and she was involved in the VaSto project at /DH.arc (Digital Humanities Advanced Research Center). After graduation, she worked for one year as assistant researcher at the Department of Classical Philology and Italian Studies (FICLIT) of the University of Bologna, within the IDHEA project (Linked Data for CH enhancement). During that period, she worked on knowledge representation of literary and iconographic sources related to Latin and Greek mythology by developing the mythLOD project. In 2021, she joined the WRITE Project with a research fellowship, working on the creation of the WRITE digital archive.
